“Follow what you love and be willing to work hard.” — Mitzi Reaugh.

I first met Mitzi Reaugh when we were neighbors in Los Angeles and had kids the same age. We would sit and talk about family, work and the future and I was always taken with Mitzi’s incredible entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to supporting women in business. Mitzi’s career spans 20 years in digital media, consumer internet and technology with experience building new businesses and as a public company board director. Mitzi’s wisdom and advice has always been invaluable and I’m so happy Violet and I can share her thoughts here.
Amy Powell: Is there one piece of advice that you wish your 9 year old self would give you today that would make an impact on your career?
Mitzi Reaugh: Follow what you love and be willing to work hard.
Amy: Was there a time you messed up and felt like you’d failed? how did you bounce back?
Mitzi: Messing up happens almost every day! I’m always thinking about how I can learn and do better. The trick to bouncing back is to give yourself permission to learn and forgive yourself.
Amy: How did you learn to embrace risk-taking?
Mitzi: I’m optimistic — instead of focusing on the risks, focus on the opportunities that will come to you if you’re successful.
Amy: What’s the most important leadership lesson you’ve learned and how has it proven invaluable?
Mitzi: Leadership is all about people and communication. You have to build relationships with people, listen to them and create a team where people want to share ideas. And never forget to communicate — always good to share the latest news and make time for connecting.
Amy: What is the most fun part of your job?
Mitzi: I work at Netflix so it’s all fun! Watching the shows is the best part!
